David Concannon, Explorers Club

"In June 2005, we toured southwestern Iceland by motorcycle with Biking Viking. This fantastic company offers personal guided tours of "The Land of Fire & Ice" using BMW F650 motorcycles. Itineraries are flexible, groups of riders are small, and the service is unmatched. If you are looking to do something off the beaten path, in a beautiful country, we highly recommend that you get in touch with Njall and give it a try."

"Our tour was set up by Biking Viking and I can't say enough good things about these guys. I had never ridden off road and my buddy Richard had just returned to motorcycling after a 20 year hiatus. Our guide, Njall Gunnlaugsson (pronounced "Knee-oll") got absolutely the most out of both of us every day. The beauty of this country is 2nd to none. The riding experience extraordinary. Our guide was ideal, he knew the right roads and the best places to stay. The bikes were set up right and did the job. I encourage anybody who is looking for an adventure to try Iceland. You won't be disappointed."

Beau Allen Pacheco, editor of Cycle World’s Motorcycle Travel & Adventure Magazine

“On a particularly gnarly dirt road, we came to the intersections of the unpronounceables: To the left was Hrauneyjar and the verdant coast; to the right was Landmannalaugar and the mountains and glaciers; behind us was Landmannaleid. We chose the right and headed for the mountains. From here the land becomes almost forbidding. Without the grace of good weather, it’s unhabitable, which is why no one lives there. Even in fair weather it’s a tough place. Not only are there few people, there’s little plant life or animals; even the hardy Icelandic horses stay away. No cops, no people, no traffic, but great roads. As I said earlier, this is a motorcycling paradise.”

Peter Jenks, UK

"We rode along the black sand and pulled up a couple of meters away from the vents: a number blowing sulphurous steam, others bubbling black mud. This is how Yellowstone National Park in the USA must have been 150 years ago: no signs, no people, just wild country and wonderful views."
